Review Fae Reckoning
Oh my goodness, Fae Reckoning! What a ride! As the final book in the Royals of Embermere series, it certainly delivered a satisfying (and emotional!) conclusion. I've been invested in Elowyn and Rush's journey since the beginning, and seeing them finally triumph over the wicked Queen Talisa was incredibly rewarding. The author, Lucía Ashta, really knows how to build suspense and keep you on the edge of your seat. There were moments where I gasped, moments where I laughed out loud, and definitely moments where I shed a few happy tears. The series as a whole has been such a fantastic blend of high-stakes fantasy and swoon-worthy romance; the slow-burn aspect of El and Rush’s relationship was perfectly paced, building to a breathtakingly beautiful happily-ever-after.
The battle for the Mirror World was epic, and I loved how Ashta seamlessly wove together the magic system, the political intrigue, and the deeply personal struggles of the characters. Elowyn's growth throughout the series has been phenomenal. Watching her discover and master her magical abilities, while simultaneously leading the resistance against the queen, was truly inspiring. She's not just a powerful heroine; she's resourceful, determined, and fiercely loyal to her friends. And speaking of friends, the supporting cast is just as captivating. Pru, in particular, stole the show for many readers, and I found her journey to be one of the most heartwarming and empowering aspects of the entire series. Her transformation from a terrified slave to a fierce warrior and loyal companion is nothing short of amazing. The bonds between Elowyn, Rush, and their entire crew were so deeply felt, making their victories all the more meaningful and their losses all the more heartbreaking.
While the book largely delivered on its promises of a thrilling, action-packed conclusion, a few minor formatting issues were mentioned by some readers, primarily concerning chapter numbering. While seemingly small, this detracted a little from the overall reading experience for some. However, from a narrative standpoint, the pacing felt slightly uneven at points for some readers; a few scenes felt drawn out, slowing down the momentum of the plot. However, this was a minor quibble compared to the overall experience. The twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end, and the final confrontation with the queen was everything I hoped for and more.
The ending itself felt appropriately epic and well-deserved. Justice was served (though perhaps a bit too violently for some, as the description notes graphic violence), and the characters found their well-earned happy endings. The epilogue, as noted by many readers, was a delightful bonus, providing a perfect sense of closure and leaving readers with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Overall, Fae Reckoning is a must-read for fans of fantasy romance and anyone looking for a compelling story with strong characters, thrilling adventures, and a satisfying conclusion. While it may not be perfect, the highs far outweigh the lows, making it a truly unforgettable reading experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this series, and particularly this final book, to anyone looking for a fantasy series that will stay with them long after they turn the final page.
